You move more slowly when your shield is raised, so you can't really hope to win if you keep the shield raised the whole time. Press your 'Guard' button again and keep it pressed to deflect the ball as it strikes against you (it counts as a miss if the ball hits you without your shield raised or if you don't deflect it with your sword), then deflects toward blocks at the top of the screen. Then you can move back and forth along the bottom of the screen. You'll launch a ball from your shield using the 'Guard' button. That one thing is a game called Blackout, which you can play by talking to the girl who stands just left from the counter inside the Item Shop.īlockout plays much like the arcade classic, Breakout. You now have only one more thing to do in Ortego Village before you head to the Desert Temple. (Above Right) Blockout plays like the classic arcade game, Breakout, which some players may also recognize as the Taito classic, Arkanoid. (Above Left) You can find the girl that will let you play Blockout standing around in the Ortega Village item shop. They're guarding a treasure chest that you can open to obtain a Small Block. Travel north along that shore and there are some spider enemies that you should kill. Head outside of the village, along the western shore. When you return there, talk to the lady who asked you to fetch a dancer to receive a Life Shard. The girls will run off to Ortego Village. Talk to Mina and Mary and tell them that you know of someone who is hiring a dancer. Once you arrive back at Raejack Village, either by using a wing or by wandering back there the old-fashioned way, the dancer that you're looking for there is one of the two girls who stand in front of the building near the town's northwestern side. That item can be purchased in bulk at the item shop here in Ortego Village.

You can take a shortcut using a Wind Wing if you like. Agree to find the dancer for her, then head to Raejack Village. She wants to spruce up the village and has heard about a great dancer in Raejack Village. Talk to the woman who wanders around in front of the item shop, near the village entrance. After you have paid him a total of 300G, then stayed at another inn, talk to him one final time and he'll reward your persistence with a Life Shard. You'll need to continue coming back to him after staying at an inn. Pay 100G again, stay at an inn, then talk to him again. He doesn't have your money as promised, but will instead ask for additional funds. Once you've done so, you can return and talk to the man. Don't bother coming back until you've stayed at an inn. He'll tell you to come back later and he'll have your money for you. (Above Right) Dancers from Raejack Village will be just the ticket!Įnter the building just northwest from the village entrance. (Above Left) This fellow is in the mood to take a lot of money from you, but you can eventually obtain the Life Shard in return for your generosity. The way to do that is to approach from the winding path along the room's left side, so focus on reaching that path by pushing three blocks that grant you access (first push the right of the three blocks up one space, then the left one up one space, then the middle one left one space to create an opening). You'll have to push statues to make your way through a maze and obtain the Life Shard that it holds. Enter it and there's a treasure chest inside. Bring the Water back to the man who gave you the Water Jar here in Ortego Village to receive a Life Shard, when it's convenient.Įlsewhere in Ortego Village, along the northwest corner, you'll find an unoccupied house. Now that you have a means of carrying it, you can fetch Water from the woman who wanders near to the cat along the small island on the south side of Colneria Village (itself located at the end of the winding path that you can find slightly southeast from Dotnia Castle).

Start by talking to the salesman near the three characters with whom you just spoke. Your other activities in Ortego Village will yield more tangible results. Do so and you'll see an homage to Dragon Quest IV. They will disappear after you clear the Desert Temple, so this is your best chance to chat with them. Before you do anything else, make time to each of three people who are standing in a row near the town's northeast corner. Now that you've arrived in Ortego Village, there are numerous activities with which to occupy your time. (Above Right) Push statues in the deserted house to reach the treasure chest and obtain a Life Shard. (Above Left) Talk to the three characters near the northeast portion of Ortego Village for a classic scene.
